We also visit the nearby Settawya Pagoda and Hsinbyume Pagoda, both of which are in white color and quite photogenic.
We then return to Mandalay to continue exploring the Mahamuni Pagoda. It is the most worshiped temple in Mandalay, and you can see the great many layers of gold leaf that are applied by devout believers to the ancient 4-meter high bronze Buddha. Further onward to the Shwenandaw Kyaung (also known as Golden Palace Monastery). This old teak monastery used to be part of Mandalay Royal Palace, and the intricate wooden carvings here are simply amazing to see. Today’s final stops are Kuthodaw Pagoda and Mandalay Hill. Regarded as “the world’s largest book”, Kuthodaw Pagoda preserves 729 marble slabs of Buddhist scriptures, which is really a highlight.
